Boys State and Girls State Bill.

Boys’ State/ Girls’ State bill

Senate  Bill , SB 169, sponsored by Senator George Munoz of Gallup would allow the school districts of New Mexico to give one half unit of credit towards graduation for completing a ” summer civics course” as an elective  as is seen in current state law for similar courses. New Mexico Boys’ State and Girls’ State could be qualified , as it has been formerly on contract with the Public Education Department, to provide the course content and material. Eastern New Mexico University has evaluated the programs and on that basis awards three college credit hours for those  students completing Boys ‘ State and Girls’ State.
Please contact as many State Senators as possible  and relay this information to them then request that they support the bill. This is the third time around so they should have some knowledge of the bill content. The bill should be in he Senate Rules Committee  as of now to determine its eligibility to be on the agenda for this session. The committee is chaired by Senator Linda Lopez.
